"Was this really an intentional (ungracious, gloating, etc.) slap? I'm a paranoid — but it is the sort of thing the hard core politicos I've known would find funny...."

EBay thwarts Glenn Beck's satirical artwork.
"Obama in Pee Pee" violated a viewpoint-neutral policy:
Your listing contain [sic] the bodily fluid of urine. We do not allow bodily fluids to be listed on our site. Even if the liquid in the jar is not urine, you are describing it as such. We do not allow this type of listing and we ask that you do not relist this in any way....Too bad Beck didn't do a more accurate satire of Andres Serrano's notorious "Piss Christ," which was a photograph. EBay's policy wouldn't have covered a photograph of urine (or of liquid described as urine).

"I do want you to support me and be my man."
I never embedded this back when it came out about a month ago — just after the first debate. Everyone, it seemed, had already linked to it immediately — with good reason! — and I felt it was instantly too late to be pointing to it. But I must say, it's my favorite thing from the campaign season, Meade and I play it every day and sing lines from it when we're not playing it. We know all the words — within reason/unreason — and allude to them in daily casual conversation. The deep, truthy absurdity gets better and better and serves more and more fundamental needs as the electoral season crawls to its desperate end. Now, first, I want you two to turn and look at each other....

Rush Limbaugh reacts to President Obama's Honey Boo Boo joke.
At that Al Smith dinner Obama told this joke: "And we're getting to that time when folks are making up their minds. Just the other day Honey Boo Boo endorsed me. So that's a big relief." Okay, that's slightly funny. But what I found hilarious was Rush Limbaugh, on his show yesterday, trying to understand it:
Okay. There you have it. There's one. Didn't edit anything there. Honey Boo Boo is a new cartoon or doll or stuffed toy --
(interruption)
Reality show, that's what it is, it's a reality show. But what is Honey Boo Boo? Honey Boo Boo is a little bear? It's a little girl, Honey Boo Boo is a little girl? A human girl or an animal girl?
(interruption)
You gotta be kidding me. Honey Boo Boo is a little girl with a trailer park-like mother? What network is this show on? I'll find out. Okay, so that's your target audience, the endorsement of Honey Boo Boo. I'll guarantee you the guys in white tie and tails at the Alfred E. Smith dinner probably didn't know who Honey Boo Boo is, either.

Obama and Romney tell jokes on themselves...
... because — exactly why? — there's this Alfred E. Smith Memorial Dinner to which solemn obeisance must be paid. Hilarious, no? Who is better at being self-deprecating without actually hurting his cause... and don't you need to know in order to determine who would make the better President?

Obama makes an O.J. Simpson joke and he can't get the name of the SUV right.
"Elmo has been seen in a white Suburban!"
He turned the Ford into a Chevy. Maybe that was intentional, since he saved General Motors and not Ford.
Or did he pick Suburban because he hates suburbia? Stanley Kurtz has written a whole book on that subject, which he summarizes here. Excerpt:

Or did he pick Suburban because he hates suburbia? Stanley Kurtz has written a whole book on that subject, which he summarizes here. Excerpt:
The centerpiece of the Obama administration’s anti-suburban plans is a little-known and seemingly modest program called the Sustainable Communities Initiative. The “regional planning grants” funded under this initiative — many of them in battleground states like Florida, Virginia, and Ohio — are set to recommend redistributive policies, as well as transportation and development plans, designed to undercut America’s suburbs. Few have noticed this because the program’s goals are muffled in the impenetrable jargon of “sustainability,” while its recommendations are to be unveiled only in a possible second Obama term. But jokes about "Sesame Street" characters are so much more fun to play around with right now... la la la... as we run up to the election.
Obama’s former community-organizing mentors and colleagues want the administration to condition future federal aid on state adherence to the recommendations served up by these anti-suburban planning commissions. That would quickly turn an apparently modest set of regional-planning grants into a lever for sweeping social change.Big Bird... tee hee... Elmo... ha ha... woman with a slashed throat... blood everywhere....

One more thing about Clinton lambasting Scott Walker in Wisconsin...
You don't see George W. Bush traveling around the country campaigning for Republicans, even in a gentle, dignified way. But his fellow former President Clinton is jumping into the Wisconsin recall election. Note too that Bush never criticizes President Obama, to whom he paid a cordial visit in the White House yesterday:
Beautiful clip:
Three of the 5 living Presidents were there in that charming scene. Bill Clinton was in Milwaukee, insulting Scott Walker. I don't know what Jimmy Carter was doing. But you tell me: How should a former President conduct himself? Should he do partisan politics, or should he withdraw to a higher plane of national eminence?
ADDED: What did they say off camera? I'm picturing some reference to the time Bush said "I want justice, and there's an old poster out West I recall, that said, 'Wanted, Dead or Alive'"and how Obama went with: dead.

Doesn't he have a job?
Dialogue chez Meadehouse at about 4:00:
ALTHOUSE: Does this go anywhere? At 4:29, his voice even cracks — like a pubescent teen. Look at his eyes. He looks like he knows it's a disaster. It seems that he's supposed to be doing some sexy Barry White style intonations, but he's obviously decided not to. It's a far cry from the actually very cool Al Green tribute he did back in January. It's like he wanted to recapture some of that charm, but it was so not happening.
MEADE: No. It doesn't go anywhere. It's embarrassing. It's a comedy vehicle for Jimmy Fallon, and it puts Obama in a beta position.

Obama said, “I trust in God, but God wants to see us help ourselves by putting people to work."
He was disapproving of Congress spending time voting to reaffirm "In God We Trust" as the national motto.
(I don't really get the theology of it. Does the President purport to know what legislation God wants Congress to pass? And if God is big on people helping themselves, why should government intervene with attempts at help? I know... it's just a joke about God. Obama is using the Lord's name to jab at people who are using the Lord's name. I need a reading on whether God likes any of that.)

"It's kind of like a turkey version of 'Dancing With the Stars,' except the stakes for the contestants was much higher."
"Only one pair would survive and win the big prize: life."
Obama turkey pardoning joke with a hint of cultural relevancy and a possibly accidental implication of ill will toward Bristol Palin. Hey. Wait a minute. That reminds me...

"I would love to just spend a lot of my time venting and yelling at people, but that's not the job I was hired to do."
"My job is to solve this problem and ultimately this isn't about me and how angry I am."
Barack Obama declines to put on a show of emotion for our edification.
But he did go on the Larry King show. What was the point of that except to massage our emotions? I guess it's a way to spend some time on camera without being pestered by any difficult questions. That way, we can gaze upon him and perhaps draw comfort from his flickering TV image, as we did in ages past.

This was funnier when Rush Limbaugh did it and called it "Barack the Magic Negro." And even then, when Limbaugh did it? It wasn't funny. It was stupid. Well, and racist. But mostly just stupid.I added the "Magic Negro" link so you can make the comparison. Apt?

"And digging our way out of it will take time, patience and some tough choices."

This is exactly the sort of statement I was referring to in another thread: immature and unPresidential. Grow up, you big pussy. You wanted the job, now quit whining and do it.And Sy said:
(Sorry for the language, I just watched Gran Torino last night.)
I guess Obama have not heard the old adage ...if you are in a hole, stop digging.Yeah. How do you dig your way out of a hole?

Obamalisa and Obama Van Gogh.

May a President joke about the power of the presidency?
Glenn Reynolds says no — at least when it's Barack Obama threatening to sic the IRS on somebody that crosses him.
Surely he's aware that other presidents, most notably Richard Nixon, have abused the power of the Internal Revenue Service to harass their political opponents. But that abuse generated a powerful backlash and with good reason. Should the IRS come to be seen as just a bunch of enforcers for whoever is in political power, the result would be an enormous loss of legitimacy for the tax system.Glenn's being practical and focused on the special problem of our income tax system, which depends so heavily on self-reporting and compliance. He's not talking more generally about the requirement that Presidents be ever serious about their awesome powers. So don't be like bad Mr. Nixon. But, presumably, this is still okay:
