In 1960, Jack Paar looked into the camera and announced: "I am leaving 'The Tonight Show.' There must be a better way of making a living than this." ... A few weeks later, his point made, Mr. Paar returned, beginning his monologue with, "As I was saying ..."Paar was pissed at getting in trouble with the network for saying "water closet."
